Doubts over whether the 39th Annual Birr Vintage Week would take place were alleviated following the recent meeting held on March 30th in Dooly’s Hotel. Around 25 people attended the meeting this time following the poor turnout at the recent AGM when doubts were expressed by the committee. Some of the bigger events that require a lot of manpower to organise and run will be scaled back. Carlsberg and other major sponsors have reduced their funding for the 2007 event. A further meeting has been scheduled for April 27th at 8.30pm in Dooly’s Hotel. The current committee is Michelle deForge (Chairperson), Barry Murphy (Vice Chair and Treasurer), Janine Wilson, AImee Milne and Ann Marie O’Brien (PROs), Alex Smyth (Parade Officer), Beverley Lavin (Secretary) together with a dozen other members.

“Lack of numbers places doubt over future of Birr Festival” - that was the headline in the Midland Tribune of March 21st following the recent AGM of the 39th Annual Birr Vintage Week held on March 9th in Dooly’s Hotel.

Whilst there was strong support for the Festival from those who attended the AGM there were not enough attendees to elect a full committee. A temporary committee was formed in order to proceed with the necessary planning that is required for the Festival to go-ahead during the week of August 10th-17th. A further meeting has been scheduled for March 30th in Dooly’s Hotel starting at 8.30pm where it is hoped that a larger turn-out will allow the formation of the 2007 committee.

The dates for the 39th Annual Birr Vintage Week have been set as Friday August 10th, 2007 to Friday August 17th. Details for prospective artists and exhibitors during the festival have been posted on their website.

Provisional dates for the 39th Annual Birr Vintage Week are August 10th - August 17th. The AGM is to be held on March 9th in Dooly’s hotel starting at 8.30pm.
